Convert Preeti to Unicode in Word, Excel and PDF files
Step by step: convert Preeti text from a Word document, an Excel sheet or a PDF to Unicode Nepali, and keep the formatting.
Word documents
Select the Preeti text in Word and copy it. Paste it into the Preeti to Unicode converter, copy the result, and paste it back over the original. Then set the font of the pasted text to a Unicode font such as Noto Sans Devanagari, Mangal or Kalimati, otherwise Word keeps Preeti and shows the wrong glyphs.
Formatting such as bold and headings is lost in the plain-text round trip, so convert one paragraph or section at a time in a long document and reapply the styles.
Excel sheets
Copy a whole column, paste it into the converter, and paste the result into an empty column next to the original. Each line of the converter output stays on its own line, so the rows line up. Set the new column to a Unicode font and delete the Preeti column when the numbers check out.
PDF files
Text copied from a Preeti PDF keeps the English letters that the font displayed, so it converts the same way. Copy a page, paste it into the converter, and read the result. If the PDF is a scanned image, there is no text to copy and the page has to be retyped.
Check the result
Read the converted text once. The converter fixes the order of ि and the reph and joins two-key letters, but a typo in the original stays a typo. Words with rare conjuncts are the ones to check first.
